Jemima Khan, wife of Pakistani politician and former cricket star Imran Khan, gave birth to a baby boy at the private Portland hospital in London on Sunday.
The seven pound, 14 ounce (three kg) boy is the first child for the couple, who married in June 1995.
The baby’s name has not yet been announced.
Jemima was six months pregnant in late July, when her husband won one of the most bitter legal battles in the history of cricket.
She stood by Imran’s side throughout the trial in which he was accused of libel and racism.
Jemima is the 22-year-old daughter of wealthy British industrialist Sir James Goldsmith.
Her decision to marry 43-year old Imran in 1995 surprised both Britons and Pakistanis.
Khan had acquired a reputation as a playboy during his long international cricket career.
But Jemima said she would fit into his culture, converted to Islam, and moved to Pakistan.
Their wedding in London on June 20, 1995 was billed as the social wedding of the year.
Sports-hero Khan gave up his cricket career to become a politician in his native country.
Early in 1996, Princess Diana visited Pakistan and went to meet the patients and officials in a cancer hospital.
Her hosts, Jemima and Imran were at her side during the much publicised visit.
But at the time, critics charged that Imran Khan was using the visit to boost his political career.
