A man said to be a suspect in the shooting that injured Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan during a convoy protest said he intended to kill him and acted alone, according to video released by Khan’s party on Thursday.

“I tried my best to kill him. Only Imran Khan. I did not want to kill anyone else,” the unidentified suspect said.

Khan was shot in the shin in what his aides said was a clear assassination attempt by his rivals.

The ousted prime minister was six days into a protest procession, standing and waving to thousands of cheering supporters from the roof of a container truck when shots rang out and chaos ensued.
